CREATION

CHOICE

Both students and educators love to create, and we have a lot of tools to use to articulate our PASSIONS in a way that fits either us, or the topic, best. When offering project options to students, it's imperative to give them CHOICE, so that they can feel empower and share their VOICE. You can meet the same criteria using a variety of tools and subjects...it's all about letting go and taking a risk.

CHALLENGE

Believe it or not, all of us feel better when there's a challenge involved. There is something called the "IKEA EFFECT", which alludes to the fact we feel better about the things we make ourselves that take a bit of effort. This is the same reasoning instant cake manufacturers offered the possibility of the cook adding an egg. Students of the 21st century are keen on PURPOSE and RELEVANCE. If a project does not meet those requirements, it fails.

CRITIQUE

Critique - if it is intelligent and justified - is healthy, and we need to get used to it. Anything you or your students create can and should be SHARED. While this is for the benefit of mankind, it also offers an opportunity for personal growth through critique. Students (and teachers) should REFLECT (self-critique), have opportunities for PEER CRITIQUE, and finally, when sharing with a GLOBAL AUDIENCE through social media, be afforded a more realistic, balanced assessment of their creative endeavors.
