Let's Have Some Fun!
Reflection Vlog (due by the end of the day)
As a fun get-to-know you and energizer for the day we'll be using the VidRhythm app and making collaborative funky music videos. This is a great first (or last) day of school activity and can be altered to be more relevant to your lessons if students change the words. For example, they could recite a math problem, historical fact, or even a great question.
As we go through the day you will probably have questions and hopefully ideas and inspiration. We'd like you to practice the "confessional" vlogging style and participate in a video reflection using the designated workshop iPad and 2 open-ended prompt questions:
1. What is your BIG TAKEAWAY from today? (feel free to talk about an idea you might have for using video in the classroom, a lingering question, or what you found most interesting, useful, or exciting.
2. If you could make a MOVIE ABOUT ANYTHING - what would it be?
* Please keep in mind that we'll be editing these into 1 film by the end of class. Below is an example from TEDxHonoluluED at Punahou this past April.

Stop Motion Makerfest
After checking out some of the examples on this site we will delve into making a quick Stop Motion animation film with the Stop Motion Studio Pro HD app. Another great chice is the PixStop app (free from the National Film Board of Canada), but it is going through a revision and will be available again in Fall 2013.
TUTORIAL and IDEAS from a High School Teacher
Your group's task is to create a short stop motion animation video with any of the "analog" materials provided. Your video should teach a lesson of some sort (i.e. a scientific concept, a foreign language word or phrase, a math problem, a historical story, or even a life lesson.
*Stop motion is great to use in class because it is very "do-able" without expensive materials and tools and taps into creativity. It takes good planning and patience, though. Check out this amazing post-it production:
Our culminating creative project will get you thinking about storyline and shots, and allow you to have some hands-on practice editing footage. All groups will have the contraints of incorporating specific elements into their films. Each group will choose a genre of film to produce to give their work unique flair. Please be prepared to share in our viewing party.
ELEMENTS EACH GROUP MUST INCLUDE IN SOME WAY
CAMERA ANGLE: Extreme Close-Up
SHOT: POV (point of view)
LINE: "Definitely - most definitely."
SOUND EFFECT: phone ring
PROP: a piece of paper
