IB Written Assignment

Updated: May 14, 2019

We will brainstorm titles and outlines on May 16; the first draft is due May 21 (if you do not submit it by this date you will need to write it during finals week with Mrs. Roley).

Firstly, please access this shared folder with tips, sample papers, examiners' suggestions, and overview:

On Thursday, May 16, we will be working on selecting a title / topic, composing an outline, and collecting textual evidence to incorporate.

A VERY helpful site to help your narrow down a topic: http://msmulhollandonline.weebly.com/the-written-assignment.html

we will also check out this little deck I made: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Xil-pL4W_NBPQM5zl5S_aHGYLsGuV4eIQj860gDSa88/edit?usp=sharing

Here is a handy dandy list of transitions and connectives (remember, this is a formal piece of writing so you'll need to use the loveliest, most sophisticated English possible: https://www.tamiu.edu/uc/writingcenter/documents/TransitionsandConnectives.pdf

Don't forget to keep it ultra literary - use "protagonist" rather than "main character, for example....peruse this LIST and include relevant terms:

You will need to work independently and submit the first draft (both a digital and printed copy) on Tuesday, May 21.

Specs:

* double-spaced, 11 pt Times New Roman (spell check!)

* 1,200-1,500 words (word count at bottom; works cited not included in count)

* Works Cited page (the exact translation of your book as well as any external sources you consult)

* MLA format for internal citations of quotations

* Title/ question at top

* cover page with full name, "Spring 2019", "Written Assignment" and book title (for printed copy); no identifying name on text

* file name: full name_Written Assignment_Spring19_book title (for digital copy)

Next school year, Mrs Meade will provide feedback and you can revise the paper prior to submitting to the IB for external marking.
