A Humanities teacher for over 20 years in several of Oahu’s private schools, Amy is a leader in educational technology professional development programs. After teaching Theory of Knowledge in an International Baccalaureate (IB) "world school" she has recently embarked on a new adventure with John Kao’s EdgeMakers. as Vice President of Academic Affairs. At EdgeMakers she develops curriculum for both traditional and blended courses and implements teacher development.
Amy is well known for her YouTube channel “History for Music Lovers”, which features history-based parody music videos with over 12 million views, has appeared in Wired magazine, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, and international blogs and media. She was privileged to present at TEDxHonolulu 2011 and serve as co-curator for TEDxHonoluluED 2013. She has presented Ignite talks at SXSWedu, ISTE, and Ignite Honolulu, and keynoted at RSCON, The Association for Advanced Computing in Education, CUE E-Learning Symposium and Alan November’s Building Learning Communities.
She was named Webmaker Fellow by the Mozilla Foundation and was a featured artist in the “Art and Culture of the Web” track at Mozfest 2014 in London. Amy’s presentations and professional development workshops often explore topics in Creativity, Remix Culture, Transparency in Education, Learning Spaces, and New Literacies.
SInce 2013 Amy has been sketching with the Paper app by Fifty Three (she is also part of the Beta testing group). Her pink and black sketches have become recognizable on social media and her art has been featured in several blogs and digital magazines. She has started several projects with her sketches, including the metaphorical & visual thinking game @serendipidoodle.
