Must Watch: The Best Prezi of the Year

E-Learning Acupuncture December 2011

A colleague of mine, Dr. Jean-Marie Muhirwa, recently returned back from the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) E-Learn 2011 World Conference on E-Learning in Corporate, Government, Healthcare & Higher Education held in Honolulu, Hawaii on 18-21 October 2011. He told me about one keynote presentation that had a very high impact on the audience and after seeing it myself, I have to agree that it's one of the best prezi-type presentations I have ever seen. If you are new to Prezi, then check their website out. I asked Jean-Marie to give us a little summary of the morning of this presentation, and this is what he wrote:

The Techno Troubadour and Teacherpreneur by Amy Burvall and Herb Mahelona was undoubtedly the most popular keynote presentation of the conference.

TEDx Event Highlights Hawaii Happenings

Katherine Finch December 2011

Educators Amy Burvall and Herb Mahelona presented “What I Learned from Napoleon and MTV.” This was highly entertaining, and a real eye-opener for those of us whose memories of middle school are getting fainter. The teachers are known nationwide for their unique approach to teaching history via costume, dance, and song, all presented like a music video that appeals to kids. Amy stars in the videos, which has 80s pop music playing. Please do yourself a favor and find one on YouTube. There is no way you will not laugh through the whole thing and also learn some history. Maybe you are planning a move here with children and wonder about schools. This pair is a bright star in the system that raises the bar for other teachers.

Historyteachers Channel on YouTube Rocks...as does Amy Burvall

BLC11 is over.  It was a great experience to hear such exciting keynotes and reflection on good teaching with outstanding teachers from all over the world.  Mike and I truly enjoyed our time in Boston and hope you get to attend BLC12 next year in Boston.

One of my best experiences was meeting Amy Burvall.  She came to our presentation about the online book.  After our presentation, I got a twitter message from Amy Burvall...She is the lyricist, singer and dancer of the HistoryTeachers Channel on Youtube.  Below is my favorite music video she has done.  It was played over and over again during class...in fact, a few teachers would come in and dance.  Her songs will get you and your class dancing.

Mike and I spoke a great deal with her about how her work has inspired our students to create their own music history videos.  I plan to send her a few examples later.  It was a great pleasure to meet this special teacher who is influencing millions of students around the world.  She should get an award.
