Storytelling is an integral part of our personal and educational lives. We share micro-stories everyday on a variety of platforms, yet frequently fail to recognize the hidden poignant tales embedded in the hashtags and status updates. This session explores some innovative uses of social media tools (Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, Storify, etc.) that can lead to story creation or “storyfinding”. Since social media is inherently social, many of these projects involve crowdsourcing and collaboration. Inspire your students’ creativity, learning, and cultivation of web literacies - the possibilities are endless. You can even emulate some of the ideas in an analog fashion for younger students.

Meograph is a relatively new platform that allows for incorporating multi-media in a timeline -type structure. Check out the one on the Arab Spring linked here.
My personal favorite tool of the year is Mozilla's Popcornmaker, which lets you remix any video (or other Popcorn creation) into an augmented, pop-up version complete with live Twitter feeds!
